Researchers is investigating the connection between a parasite named Toxoplasma gondii (commonly found in cat droppings) and the onset of schizophrenia later in life.
Most people don’t have the awareness that schizophrenia is caused by a virus or bacteria or a parasite. The investigation is a relatively new idea. The study arouses an increasing interest in environmental influences on the development of mental illnesses.
The preliminary results show that a 53% increase in risk for schizophrenia if you live with a cat during childhood, but this seems to provide little evidence for the issue.
From demonstration we can find that there is also a 51 percent increase in risk if you were breastfed.
Besides researchers have been examining antibiotics against the feline parasite to treat schizophrenia. They found that ingesting or inhaling parasitic spores from cat waste may lead to schizophrenia.
Certainly the connection between cats and toxoplasmosis in pregnant women has been obvious, so it’s quite necessary to avoid contact with cats during pregnancy.
