Puppy owners always say their puppy is sick with a dry warm nose. Actually it’s not true. A healthy puppy’s nose can vary in different occasions during the day. A wide variety of reasons can lead to a dry, warm nose, which has nothing to do with health, such as lying in the sun for a long time, staying long near a source of heat, Dwelling in a room with poor air circulation, etc.
Checking your puppy’s nose can find some other problems related to nose. Those puppies that have pale or pink noses are easy to catch sunburn. If your puppy has a dry, red nose, it’s usually caused by sunburn. Consult your vet about what type of lotion you can use to protect your puppy from exposing in the sun. It’s dangerous to expose your puppies in the sun, because too much sunburn can lead to skin cancer.
If you find your puppy’s nose is cracked with scabs or sores, it indicated that your puppy may catch a skin disorder. Then you need to ask your vet for the proper treatment.
While checking up your puppy’s nose, another thing important for you is to look for nasal discharge. If you find your puppy’s nose running, the mucus should be clear. If your puppy is discharging bubbly, thick, yellow, green or even black mucus, it’s time for you to see your veterinarian immediately.
Much like humans, you have to pay close attention to those slight illness and health conditions in your puppies. Many small and slight conditions would grow into fatal illness without giving immediate care.
